Woodland, CA is a small town located around twenty five minutes from Sacramento. It has a great downtown and it makes me think of Pasadena before the developments and big chains moved in.
There is a grand Irish pub named Father Paddy’s Pub on Main Street and it's home is stately building that was a bank in 1903. When you walked in to the high ceiling, stained wood and copper bar you see the original vault with two doors and each door is about a foot thick.
This is old vault is where the Publican /Owner. Patrick Redmond has created a “safe” den to store some of the finest collection of whiskies in Northern California..
Patrick and his pub hosts a special event several times a year to taste and teach all about Irish, Scotch and American whisky.
We set in the vault and Patrick showed me the latest list of whiskies. He explained how some was made, stored and distributed. There were close to a hundred and fifty different types of whiskies with different costs. He is always getting and testing new and old whiskies.
When Patrick was nineteen he was honored to be part of the first non military bands to be invited to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. He loved the pub environment and decided he would want to start an Irish pub.( Mr. Redmond's goal is one of the world best example of “Irish Time” .) It took him a long thirty six year to accomplish his dream. Prior to starting his pub , Patrick was a musician and youth master. His training and experience in music ensures that all acts are all vetted before playing at Father Paddy.
Father Paddy's has an award winning chef and team. The Paddy Melt with Angus beef three cheese blend of Jarlesberg, white cheddar and comte' ( Gruyere ) cheese and Jameson's onions on a toasted rye. I really enjoyed this sandwich but the next time I attend I am going to try one of the many other items on the menu.
Stop by for the pub and walk around this quint town for a wonderful trip.
