Rated the best Irish Pub in all of Virginia Beach, and a mere 2 blocks from the Atlantic Ocean…who could ask for more? How about foot stomping live Irish music, nightly food specials, the largest Irish draft & whiskey selection in town, and ESPN Gameplan showing on multiple flat screen TV’s?
My dining companion and I spent our favorite holiday at Virginia Beach, and were pleased to find a small window of opportunity to visit Murphy’s…and we were not disappointed. The town was jumping with the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon, and Murphy’s Irish Pub was no exception; we were lucky to sneak in for breakfast, and our choice of the Traditional Irish Country Breakfast was delightful.
(The crowd below lining up for the 8K race; Murphy's is in the background with the green roof.)
The crowds started early, so we’ll have to return and try their nightly specials. Tuesday: ½ price burgers, Wednesday: Wing Night, Thursday: $2 Fish Tacos, Friday: Freedom Fridays, Saturday: Breakfast 9a-12p, Sunday: Champagne Brunch 9a-2p
The atmosphere (because isn’t that why you go to a pub?) was traditional Irish décor, and the crowd was friendly & raucous. I anticipate that on our next trip we’ll have difficulty making a decision between the Hearty Irish Stew, Irish Meat & Potato Pie, Jameson’s Strip Steak, or the Kilkenny Penne.
Our biggest take-away? Murphy’s supports their locals with great passion; much of their menu is based on local produce, and all of their seafood is caught fresh daily by local fishermen.
