Rúla Búla got its name in a legitimate way for a true Irish Pub; it comes from the Gaelic expression “rí rá agus ruaille buaille” which translates to “UPROAR & COMMOTION”
Quite fitting for this Pub located on Mill Avenue…a street in Tempe that is often closed to traffic for the many festivities throughout the year. Located in a former saddlery and harness shop, the owners have continued that theme with design elements reflective of a mid-19th century Irish saddle-styled pub. Merchants back then would be stocked with practical neccesities, but many doubled as a pub and a corner would be set aside for a quick pint and a way to catch up on the “craic” or “gossip” as we call it in the US.
# Irish Bar
Rúla Búla takes their drink seriously, with a wide variety of whiskeys, scotch, ryes, and bourbons. Their collection of Single Malts includes 22 varieties, aged in the 10-18 year bracket. Tuesday would be a great day to visit, as premium whiskies are discounted by 20%. But! You’re not just here to drink, right? Let’s talk about their menu! Have you ever tried Boxty? The Irish answer to potato pancakes/tortillas/crepes, complete with a variety of savory fillings that Rúla Búla made famous. “Boxty on the griddle, Boxty on the pan, If you can’t make Boxty, you’ll never get a man!” Many authentic Irish dishes are on the menu: Shepherd’s Pie (voted the best in Phoenix), is offered with traditional Angus beef or Vegetarian, Mussels, Galway Bay-Style, and Gaelic-style chicken breast. Our favorite is the late-night menu, offered from 9pm til closing, with all of the typical fare you crave at that witching hour: Irish Potato Skins, Wings, and Sliders. Visit! We promise you won’t be disappointed, and don’t forget to call first for the parking meter code.
